In June Barry Wallis came to talk about the International Bomber Command Centre located on Canwick Hill overlooking the city of Lincoln. Barry is a volunteer and tour guide there. He said Lincoln was chosen to locate the centre as Lincolnshire was home to 27 Bomber Command bases and it has been designed to provide a world-class facility to serve as a point for recognition, remembrance and reconciliation for Bomber Command. He gave a very interesting talk about Bomber Commands and their purpose in WWII. 62 nations served in the Bomber Command and one of their main operations apart from bombing was to help in the Humanitarian Operation Manna in 1945 dropping 8000 tons of food in Holland when the Nazis had invaded and 20,000 people died of starvation.
