For our August meeting we had two very entertaining ladies from North Lincolnshire Age UK. Pat Turner and Jane Glove explained how Age Uk had been formed by amalgamating two organisations - Independent Living North Lincolnshire and Age Concern. They are a brand partner to the national organisation but the Barton shop is slightly different from the Scunthorpe one in that any donations made to Barton remain in this area whereas Scunthorpe goes into the national 'pot'.
Pat and Jane are based in Scunthorpe where there is a shop and cafe open to the public. There is also a room where various activities take place from games to exercise and involve members of the local community. One of the services they offer is an audiologist who organises sessions for hearing tests.
They have 82 voluneers doing various roles from a few hours per week - if you are interested in helping please contact them. The ladies were very knowledgeable.
At the end of the session they gave out goody bags to the older members, containing a flask, hot water bottle, thermal rug, pair of wool socks and magic gloves.
