July 2013 Meeting
The meeting on the 3rd July was a visit to Cote Hill Farm at Osgodby. Members were given a very warm welcome by Michael and Mary Davenport. Michael told us that they have been farming at Cote Hill Farm for more than 30 years. They started making cheeses in 2005 using milk produced by their herd of 70 Friesian, Holstein and Red Poll cows. They only make 4 different cheeses and the process was explained. We were shown a video of the cheese making process and were able to view the milking area and also the areas were cheese is made and stored. They have won many awards for their cheeses. We were able to sample and purchase the award winning Cote Hill Blue, Cote Hill Red and Cote Hill Yellow cheeses. The cheese are available at a few local independent shops and the local farmers market.
